11+ Grammar School Exam Preparation

Grammar schools in Gloucestershire have an excellent reputation where children develop their self-confidence, thrive academically and are challenged to discover their full potential. It is therefore no surprise the competition for places is high. Our 11+ tutors offer a programme geared towards preparing your child for the test and feeling confident on the day.

The CEM test (taken in Gloucestershire) comprises of 3 areas:

• Numerical – (Working with numbers, number knowledge, number problems, data handling, shape and space, units and measures, mixed problems).
• Verbal – (Comprehension, spelling and grammar, word meanings, cloze passages).
• Non-verbal – (Spotting patterns involving shapes, counting, pointing, shading and line types, order and position, rotation, reflection, layering. 2D and 3D shapes and folding).

Although much of the numerical content is very similar to work the children will do at school, they may not have come across the verbal and non-verbal aspects of the test. Our tutors will therefore ensure children are confident with these areas and give tips to help answer the different styles of questioning.

Being able to draw upon general knowledge and discuss current affairs is also a great advantage to children wishing to undertake the 11+ test. A well-rounded child who has a good understanding of the world will often be able to draw upon this knowledge. It can help them with understanding reading comprehensions, solving maths word problems and with the verbal element where a wide vocabulary is vital.
