~ FAQs ~

Are you an agency?

Pace Tutoring is a Tutor Agency. We act as agents for the tutors. The tutors are the principals in the provision of the tutoring and we act as their agents.

How do I book?

Get in touch with Pace Tutoring using the contact page or call us on our telephone number. Using your information, we will identify a selection of tutors who fit your requirements for you to make your decision. Then we will arrange a time suitable for you to speak to the tutor prior to your first session to discuss arrangements.

How do I pay?

We invoice you at the end of the month/start of the following month for the lessons after they have been held.

How often do I pay?

Once a month.

Where does the tutoring take place?

We are flexible to meet your needs, also taking into account the tutors’ preferences. Online, at your home and the tutors’ home are methods currently used.

Do I have to live in Cheltenham or Gloucester to use the tutors?

No, many of our tutors are happy to travel a reasonable distance for their sessions. If a client is too far away to travel, most tutors are experienced in providing remote sessions using online teaching resources.

Can I contact the tutor direct?

After initial arrangements have been finalised, we fully support the client and tutor sharing contact details. We believe that the success of the partnership is built upon having clear communication lines. Pace Tutoring do not believe in micro-managing the process and trust all parties to act professionally in their correspondence. Our safeguarding policy states very clearly that there is to be no direct contact in any form between the tutor and the child. This includes all forms of social media.

What is the cancellation policy?

We understand that with our busy lives, sometimes things don’t always go to plan, however, regular chopping and changing doesn’t help to build the stability needed for successful tutoring.

Our policy requests that at least 24 hours is required to cancel a session without a cost being incurred for a reason other than an accident or emergency. If less than 24 hours notice is given, then you shall be obliged to pay a cancellation fee amounting to half of that cancelled lesson’s fee, unless a mutual alternative agreement has been made with your tutor.

Do clients have to pay any introductory fees?

No, there are no introductory fees.

Do I have to pay any additional fees?

No. Transport costs are factored into the price you pay. It will only in exceptional circumstances be necessary for a tutor to request additional transport costs.

Will you be in regular contact with us?

We do not want to micro-manage each step of the tutoring process as we trust our tutors to maintain the professional relationship and provide the service expected. However, we are also very keen to ensure that you and your child are happy with the tutoring they are receiving, so we will be in contact from time to time.

Are all the tutors DBS checked?

Yes, we have ensured all our tutors hold a current Enhanced DBS certificate.

What additional checks are made?

We check the qualifications of all tutors in addition to meeting them personally to ensure they meet the high standards expected of them.

Will I be able to select a tutor?

Yes. When you contact us with your requirements, we identify tutors who fit your criteria. You will then be able to choose your tutor from this selection. We will also arrange an opportunity to speak together prior to your first session.

Who do I contact if I have a question over the tutoring or if I feel something needs adjusting?

All our tutors are fully qualified teachers or experienced tutors who are competent in holding professional conversations. We encourage parents to address any questions or queries to the tutor in the first instance. If there are still areas to be discussed which could not be resolved with the tutor, then speak to us to discuss it further.

Will I get feedback on how my child is progressing?

Our tutors allow time at the end of the session to explain to parents what was covered and to offer feedback. Each tutor will write a short report of the session and add this to the Tutor Cruncher system we use. This will be available for you to view.

Will homework be set?

Tutors will provide activities to be completed outside the tutoring session although these will vary from session to session.

What is the Tutors’ Association?

This is the UK government recognised professional body for the industry. Being members of this organisation provides credibility to our business. All members are required to sign up to a Code of Ethics to recognise a commitment to behaving ethically and professionally.
