Pace Tutoring are members of the Tutors’ Association. This is the UK government recognised professional body for the industry. Being members of this organisation provides credibility to our business. We believe this provides added security and confidence to parents when choosing us.

~ FAQs ~
Are you an agency?
Pace Tutoring is a Tutor Agency. We act as agents for the tutors. The tutors are the principals in the provision of the tutoring and we act as their agents.
When and how often do I get paid?
You are paid by the directly by the family at the end of the month after the lessons have taken place.
How do I get paid?
You complete a timesheet/invoice at the end of the month and send it to us. We then send on the invoice to your family, along with our invoice for our commission. The family will receive two invoices (yours and ours). The payment will come directly from the family to your bank account and it is your responsibility to check that you have been paid.
How much will I get paid?
Tutors are self employed and so set their own hourly rate. We charge a commission on top.
How much commission do you take?
We charge a rate of £7 per hour lesson. On the back of market research this figure is towards the lower end of that charged by agencies nationwide. This revenue covers all our staffing, office costs, technology enhancements and marketing.
Do I have to sort out my own tax?
Yes. You will be self-employed. You will be responsible for your own tax affairs, and for ensuring that the correct amount of tax is sent to HMRC at the appropriate time. You alone will be responsible for registering as self-employed as soon as you start work, and for filing a self-assessment each year.
Do I have to be a qualified teacher?
No. Although most of our tutors are qualified teachers, we also recognise the value of highly experienced tutors who can provide evidence of high standards of tutoring.
What happens if a client doesn’t pay?
The family pays you directly and it is therefore the responsibility of the tutor to check that payment has been made. Our tutors speak directly to the family if payment is late. Due to the self-employed nature of the tutoring business, a tutor agency is not allowed to reimburse a tutor for none payment by the family.
Are there any upfront costs?
No, we don’t ask for any money from our tutors to set with our agency.
Do I have to have an Enhanced DBS check?
Yes, you are required to hold a current Enhanced DBS check and also be registered on the renewal service. We can help you to get one arranged through our membership with the Tutors’ Association.
I can’t tutor straight away, should I still apply?
Yes. We are keen to hear from any potential tutors either immediately or in the future. Please get in touch with your details so we can talk about future opportunities.
I’m a qualified secondary teacher, should I still apply?
Yes please. We are starting to develop a network of secondary school tutors. We’d be really pleased to speak to you about what you can offer.
Can I choose when I tutor?
Yes. The benefit of tutoring is that it can work around the hours to suit you. If you let us know the hours when you are available, the clients will make their decision accordingly. Clients will look for tutors with availability to suit their personal circumstances. Some will prefer a weekday later afternoon/early evening, and some will prefer a weekend. It goes without saying that the more flexible you are, the more clients will consider you.
